Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles into specific points on the body that have been proven to be effective in treatment of specific health problems. These acupuncture points have been mapped by the Chinese for over 2,500 years and their locations have recently been confirmed by modern electromagnetic research.

Acupuncture needles are hair-thin stainless steel threads that are tapered to a point. It is a popular misconception to think of all needles like hypodermic, which have a cutting edge. Upon insertion of an acupuncture needle some patients will experience a pinch-like or tingling sensation and then it quickly leaves. Other patients cannot tell if a needle has been inserted.

The most common questions asked, (besides is it painful?) is how does it work? From a Western medicine perspective, research has shown that the body releases endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers, in response to acupuncture. More recent experiments have shown that acupuncture stimulates immune system cells as well as neurotransmitters and neurohormones in the brain.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture helps regulate the body’s qi (energy) to reinstate balance in the body to restore the healthy function of the tissues, organs and body systems.

Just in case you were wondering...the acupuncture needles are all individually packaged, sterilized, and disposed of after one use. All Acupuncture Physicians in Florida are certified in ‘Clean Needle Technique’ to standardize the use of acupuncture needles in practice
